Huge Thunderstorm Causes Mess in College Place/Walla Walla

Residents living in Walla Walla County, particularly the cities of College Place and Walla Walla, endured quite an isolated thunderstorm Monday night.

The storm, which started just before 10 p.m. and lasted about an hour, was recorded by the National Weather Service station at Walla Walla Regional Airport as having wind speeds of 21 to 31 miles per hour, but for a solid 10 minutes, gusts reached 54 miles per hour at the airport.

During that hour, a quarter inch of rain had also fallen at the airport.

Throughout the area, power outages have been reported and trees have fallen due to the heavy winds.
