Starbucks to Stop Using Bug Dye
Did you know you may have been getting a little crushed bug with some of your favorite Starbucks treats?
Starbucks announced this week it will stop using a red dye that comes from crushed bugs.
The company says it will swap out cochineal extract, which is made from the juice of a tiny beetle, and instead use lycopene, a tomato-based extract.
Cochineal dye is widely used in foods and cosmetics.
Starbucks used the coloring in strawberry flavored mixed drinks and some of its desserts.
