Allegiant Air Charging For Carrying On Bags

Allegiant Air will start charging for carry on bags that go in the overhead bin starting tomorrow on all of its flights.

The Las Vegas based airline made the announcement yesterday that carry-ons that do not fit under the seat can cost passengers up to as much as $35, depending on where on the flight.

Allegiant Air sent out a memo stating the new fees are part of a focus to give the passenger a "menu of choices", which will allow passengers to "build an experience that fits their needs and their budget."

The airline has three destinations from the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco, passengers at the airport today that had flights on other airlines had mixed responses to the news:

"Ouch, that seems really high, it seems painful." - Doug Wadsworth, Kennewick

"It does add extra weight to the plane, which costs in fuel, so I understand a little bit of it." Karen Dickman, Hermiston

"They have plenty of room in the airport line for it and they're already charging pretty good fees for the tickets so I don't believe we should have to pay for those [fees]." Terry Black, Kennewick

Anyone who has already purchased a ticket will not have to worry about the new fees.

Passengers looking to save money on the new fees should book their flight online where it will be about half the price than paying at the airport.
