Alert Neighbor Warns Family of House Fire
An alert neighbor is being credited for warning a Yakima family to get out of their house after it caught on fire this past weekend.
A boy on Lafollette Avenue told his mother he saw flames in front of the house next door. The mother then ran over and warned the family, and then the man of the house grabbed a garden hose and doused the fire.
The family believes the neighbor helped stop the fire from getting out of hand.
"Probably would have gone on fire like big, severe, and probably would have been worse, probably we would end up, like being burned," says Pedro Banales.
Firefighters arrived ten minutes later to put out hot spots. Crews believe a discarded cigarette left burning started the fire. Damage to the home is estimated at $1,000.
