Murray Announces Major Early Learning Grant for Wash. State
Washington state is one of nine states to win a share of $500 million in new federal money for early learning initiatives that help kids get ready for kindergarten.
Sen. Patty Murray, who has encouraged the Obama administration to put more money into preschool education, announced today that the state applied for $60 million.
This afternoon, Gov. Chris Gregoire announced that indeed, Washington state was awarded $60 million -- the full amount of the grant requested.
Washington state was among fewer than ten award winners from the 37 applications.
