Brown Denied By State Supreme Court, Gregoire

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) -- The Washington state Supreme Court has denied a stay of execution for death row inmate Cal Coburn Brown. He's scheduled to be executed early Friday.
The court denied the stay 8-1 on Wednesday. Justice Richard Sanders dissented, writing that Brown had raised constitutional issues about the basis of his sentence and that the court cannot act in haste while ensuring justice is done.
Brown is scheduled to be executed for the 1991 torture and murder of 22-year-old Holly Washa, a Burien woman.
Brown reportedly suffers from bipolar disorder. Prison staff have prescribed medication to control the condition since 1994.
Gov. Chris Gregoire also denied clemency Wednesday.
