Men's Journal article on Yakima

Yakima is known for a lot of things, but today.. a new honor -- one of the best places in the nation to live. We have more on why Men's Journal magazine says Yakima is a great place to be.
Crime in Yakima makes headlines often.
But now good news about the city is as close as the nearest newsstand. The national magazine Men's Journal lists Yakima as the best place to take your Northwest dry.
"I think it's great the recognition that they gave us in this magazine, kinda makes a person who lives here feel good," says Yakima native Gary Fairbanks.
Editors say the city's close proximity to all sorts of different outdoor recreation, make the area attractive to the lifestyle its readers enjoy. Those include fishing, rafting, and hunting.
Fairbanks owns a shop that caters to outdoorsmen.
"We have a lot of activities for a relatively small town type of deal," he says.
Men's Jounal also likes the fact that you rarely need an umbrella to enjoy the outoors in Yakima.
More than 300 days of sunshine in the city means you won't get wet when you play, unless you want to.
Yakima also gets high marks for its many wineries, and the beer made by microbrews.
"Particularly to craft beer when you are outside of Yakima and you say Yakima, everybody else knows what that means, I don't know that we appreciate it as much, those of us who live here," says Jeff Winn of Yakima Craft Brewing Company, and a resident.
Some are just glad to hear some good news about Yakima for a change.
"It's good for all the people who live here, it's good for the community, and the state, and I don't know why anybody wouldn't like that," says Winn.
Men's journal also liked Yakima's affordable housing, and old fashioned downtown. The article featuring Yakima appears in the magazine's april issue, which is on newsstands right now.
